PM rating remains unaffected despite Covid, economic crisis

New Delhi, June 2 (IANS): The images of hapless migrant labourers walking long distances to get back to their native places may have given hope to the critics of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that at least now his popularity may wane. Or, the unprecedented economic crisis in the wake of the two-month lockdown might turn the masses against him. However, on the contrary, his net national approval rating, according to an IANS-C Voter State of the Nation 2020 Survey, is at nearly 66 per cent.

As if that is not enough, the net rating of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is 0.58 per cent. The ruling BJP seems to be well aware of this unbridgeable gap, considering the perennial party focus on him.

The highest endorsement rate of the Prime Minister is in Himachal Pradesh with 95.1 per cent. The Prime Minister's nett approval rating is over 90 per cent in Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Incidentally, the Congress was voted to power in the Chhattisgarh in 2018 after a 15-year rule of the BJP.

Even in Punjab and Rajasthan, both Congress-ruled states, Modi's popularity stands at 68.84 per cent and 68.43 per cent, respectively. In the southern states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu, where the BJP remains on the margins, Modi's nett approval rating is 32.89 per cent and 32.15 per cent respectively. Barring these two states, the Prime Minister is going strong all over the country, the chart showing him above 50 per cent in every single state.

Compared to Modi, Rahul Gandhi has only 36.12 per cent nett approval from Kerala, which sent him to the Lok Sabha. Tamil Nadu is the second most favourable state for him, where he has met with a 26.11 per cent.

Modi ranks above the satisfaction ratings of the chief ministers of both the NDA and non-NDA formations. The PM's nett satisfaction ranking at 65.69 is higher than the combined ranking of 57.36, of all the chief ministers of the UPA-ruled states.

PM Modi has the highest satisfaction rating of 92.73 in Chhattisgarh whereas the states chief minister Bhupesh Baghel, a popular leader, has a rating 81.06. Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, who has been in power for over seven months, enjoys a satisfaction rating of 76.52, which is higher than the 71.48-per cent of the Prime Minister. Modi's satisfaction rating in West Bengal is 64.06, which is higher than 52.06 ratings of Mamata Banerjee.

In Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the two states which have suffered the most due to the migrant crisis, the Prime Minister has an approval rating of 64.06 per cent and 67.01 per cent respectively. Rahul enjoys the maximum rating in Haryana with 31.11 per cent endorsement. In Chhattisgarh, Rahul has 4.55 per cent rating.

Goa, with 9.62 per cent approval, stands out as the worst place for the BJP. Haryana too is a source of worry, with 38.73 per cent endorsement.

May 2009 onwards, the IANS-C Voter Tracker has been carried out each and every week, 52 waves in a calendar year, in 11 national languages, across all States and Union territories with a target sample size of 3,000 samples each wave. The average response rate is 55%. This survey is based on CATI interviews of adult respondents across all segments.

These are fudged BJP's own app university rating. While Rahul Gandhi is giving his valuable suggestions to govt and the govt appreciating it and successfully implementing it then how can Raga's rating so low and Modi's rating so high. Moody's rating is the clear picture what is to come. As usual BJP's fake news factory is working overtime.

Are you serious? Rahul Gandhis suggestions taken up by Govt? Its a universal secret that he reads out a scripted speech and attends a scripted interview once in a while to be in news. He is not even taken seriously in his party. Young people are leaving his party nation wide and Cong is in the brink of extinction except for some die hard ageing fans. As long as he is at the helm of Cong its a blessing in disguise for BJP. All they have to do is , sit tight as he digs the grave deeper.

Cannot agree more. Even in DK and Mlore Congi traditional supporters are fed up with the party's repeated debacles nationwide. There is a massive tilt in vote base now. The usual question that confronts is 'What are the accomplishments of Rahul Gandhi or the Congress , to make people vote for them?? There is no straight answer to this question as there are no accomplishments. Looking like Mummy or Daddy will only evoke laughter not support or votes. Why will anyone want to associate a sinking ship ???

But Rahul Gandhi & family is giving you sleepless nights. Day and night you hallucinate about congress because BJP itself praised Rahul Gandhi for awakening you from disaster waiting to happen. BTW, please feel free at your convenience for JPC, open debate and press conference with RaGa. When was last Modi attended Q&A session in the parliament. Modi was regularly absent to the parliament during that session. A recent reminder Nirmamal Sitharam and her secretary were mum like statues in the parliament when they were officially questioned by RaGa in the parliament. Modi has never appeared for free press conference since 2014 but whenever he arranged one he insisted to give the questions to him before hand from selected people by him on selected topics. This is not free press meet this is press drama.

Veer, you are on the wrong line. It was not RaGas advise that Govt followed. RaGa only suggested it later and claimed credit forit, later he had to cut a sorry figure as always, PM never attends press conferences cos he has a team that does that. If PM has to answer a MP then he has to appoint a call center. In other countries it may work but not here. Like I said, RaGa is an asset for BJP, the more he opens his mouth the better it is for them. Why did RaGa not attend any debate when Smriti Challenged him continously since 2014??? Eventually RaGa had to lose Amethi with a lot of humiliation. I think its better the Congress supporters introspect seriously on their leadership, Or else its just a repeat of 209 in 2014.

If not for Rahul Gandhi's timely intervention and strict warning to the govt India would have been sold to China. BJP govt is only interested in money and doesn't care how it comes. It's the constitutionally sworn-in duty of every head of a democratic country including India to conduct free and fair press conference and answer people's questions for transparency and accountability of the govt without being selective. All the countries are doing it including our prevoius govt heads have done it regularly. Your'Call Centre' remarks are silly and laughable as taught by your RSS masters. It's nothing but a evasive tactics to hide its true face.

So is our GDP. Tall but not upwards, but downwards.

Comes nowhere near to where the opposition party left it.

As such, people should hereafter eat the PM's popularity, not rice/dal - roti/sabji.

What difference does it make if the PM's rating is high or low ? Will our GDP, that is about to march into negative, change ? Will we go back to the GDP where the previous government left ?

Stop this media craze. Your being famous or not, liked or hated does not give food to the hungry. Please shed your love for self image and work for the upliftment of the economy. Please start work before many more businessmen give up living. Before there will be more widows and orphans in the children than happy families.
