Puttur, Jun 8: Even as administrations are battling it out to mitigate hardships and meet challenges posed by coronavirus pandemic, dengue has raised its ugly head. During the first week of June, 53 dengue cases were reported from Puttur and Kadaba taluks.

The cases are spread over areas falling under Kadaba and Koila health centres in Kadaba taluk where a total of three cases have been reported, and Upinangady, Koltige, Panaje, Sarve, Shiradi and Tomgaladi primary health centre limits in Puttur taluk. Most of the cases are reported from Panaje (31) and Uppinangady (8).

Between January and June 7 this year, these taluks have recorded 258 dengue cases. As many as 130 of them were reported in May alone. Zilla panchayat president and health department teams have visited the villages where dengue is prevalent and provided the people with information needed to regulate the spread of dengue. ASHA and health workers have also been moving from house to house in these two taluks to create awareness. Taluk nodal officer Dr Badruddin, has assured that enough medicines to treat dengue patients are available and the people need not worry unnecessarily.

In other areas of the coastal districts, three cases were reported from Nandalike near Belman. Nandalike primary health centre medical officer has asked people to take care of their health as dengue normally proliferates during the rainy season.

There are dengue cases even in Kasargod where 15 persons have got admitted into different hospitals for treatment.
