Kasargod, Jun 10: Ashraf (68), a destitute of Kasargod origin, was stranded in the quarantine at Bannanje government hostel at Udupi since the last one and half months because of lockdown. On Monday evening, he was taken to Kasargod in the ambulance sent by the Kerala government, accompanied by suitable security.

Both the Udupi district administration and pro-Hindu organisations had made efforts to send Ashraf back to Kasargod but failed. They had contacted Kasargod police in an effort to find his house address. Finally, the Kasargod district administration arranged to get Ashraf back to the district through the police department.

An ambulance driver, accompanied by a policeman letter from the deputy superintendent of police, Kasargod, came here to pick Ashraf. They collected discharge letter from the supervisor of the hostel, Suchitra Santosh, before going back.

Throat swab sample of Ashraf was tested and the result was negative. The report has been sent with him. Suchitra expressed happiness at the fact that Ashraf, who refused food on certain occasions, and was in sombre mood at times, could go back to his place with the efforts put in by different people.

Leader of a Hindu organization, Santosh Suvarna, said that Hindu outfits had made an effort to locate the address of the man after getting information that an aged, helpless man, was stranded in the hostel here. He said that the district administration too had made efforts and messages were sent through social websites and other means. Several calls also were received on a daily basis on this matter. "We are happy that he could go back," he said.
