Udupi: KMC Manipal Organizes Workshop on Pharmacovigilance, Ethics in Clinical Trials

Udupi, Feb 12: The importance of ethics in clinical research, roles of ethics committee and pharmacovigilance were highlighted at the Pharmacovigilance and Ethics in Clinical trials workshop held at the Shirdi Sai Baba Cancer Hospital, recently. It was organized by the department of pharmacology, Kasturba Medical College (KMC), Manipal. 
 
The workshop was inaugurated by Dr G K Prabhu, registrar of Manipal University (MU) and Dr Shakunthala Pai, associate dean of KMC, Manipal. The postgraduates and junior staff from various institutions got an opportunity to enhance the frontiers of their knowledge in the area of clinical trials and pharmacovigilance.
 
Lectures included topics like importance of ethics in pharmacovigilance, identifying, monitoring and reporting of adverse drug reactions, role of statistics in pharmacovigilance, roles and responsibilities of principal investigators, ethics committee submission, patient informed consent etc. pretest, posttest and case studies on clinical trials were some of the main attractions of the workshop.
 
The speakers included were Dr Prabha Adhikari, professor of department of medicine, KMC, Mangalore Dr P S V N Sharma, head of the department of psychiatry, KMC Manipal, Dr Sudha Vidyasagar professor of department of medicine, KMC, Manipal, Dr M K Unnikrishnan, head of department of pharmacy practice, MCOPS Manipal, Dr Bharti Chogtu and Dr Sachidananda Adiga, associate professors of department of pharmacology, KMC Manipal, R Thiyagu, SRF-ICMR and others.
 
The workshop was attended by over 150 delegates from RGUHS, Raichur, Gulbarga, Bellary, Cochin and Tamil Nadu.
