Dubai, Feb 12: USWAS, an association of Shirva parishioners residing in the UAE, under the leadership of Oscar Rego, held its annual fest celebrations on Friday February 12 at the famous banquet hall of Excelsior Creek Hotel in Bur Dubai.
The event was filled with entertainment and fun as talented members of USWAS and guest artistes presented their talent to entertain the audience throughout the day.
The event started at noon with the welcome prayer ‘Savud Mai’ by association members. The entertainment began in the form of some fine music by Joy Almeida singing ‘Kontar Korun’, and ‘Jinke Marina’.
Sheela Carlo sang ‘Tum Mhojya Mogacho’, Asha Rego sang ‘Eka Chalyachya Mogar’, while Sharon Rego sang ‘Yo Moga’. Canute and Sharon rendered ‘Mog Konem Deklaa’, while Uttam and Sharon sang ‘Chilipili Sukni’, and Canute and Sheela ‘Haanv Tujo Mog Kartham’ and so on.
Canute Mathias, Shirva’s well-known young musical talent, who already has a Konkani music album to his name, along with Sharon and Sheela, sang some foot-tapping numbers in Konkani and Kannada. The ever enthusiastic Joseph Mathias too rendered his voice to make the audience feel the taste of great Konkani music.
‘Jai Ho’ dance by little Masha Menezes, Sheryl D’Souza, and Vilton Sequiera was spectacular and patriotic.
Cleon and Jinel presented the evergreen ‘Shiradaricho Paavs’ while Arun and group as well as Karen and group presented dance shows.
Boscyambegaar once again proved their talent by performing skits like ‘Sakkad Bandal Saiba’, ‘Sach Ko-Mana’, and ‘Dance Shirva Dance’, inspired by famous TV shows ‘Sach ka Saamna’ and ‘Dance India Dance’.
The compere duo consisting of UAE’s famous Uttam Menezes and Shirva’s very own Roshan Menezes took charge of hosting the event jointly. The two spared no effort in keeping the audience busy with their humour, spot prizes, and other announcements.
In a brief stage programme, USWAS felicitated Uttam Menezes for his contributions to Konkani. Another famous name in entertainment, Manoj Menezes, was also felicitated with the title ‘Shirvancho Kunwar’ for his contribution to USWAS.
Oscar Rego, president of USWAS, welcomed Robert D’Sa of Caesar’s, Fr Freddy, spiritual director and assistant parish priest of St Mary’s Catholic Church, and Joseph Mathias, supporter of USWAS, on the dais.
Roshan Menezes read out the report while Nelson Castelino compered the stage programme. Lavina Menezes read out the names of sponsors who supported the event to make it successful.
The event ended with Baila which had the entire audience on the stage.
