Mangaluru: Tree saplings being planted along road from Nanthoor to Talapady

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jun 24: The work of planting of tree saplings has been in progress between Talapady and Nanthoor. The programme has been undertaken by the forest department with the support of the National Highways Authority of India. Nature lover Madhava Ullal, has been shouldering the responsibility for the success of this scheme.

Kadamba trees are being planted on both sides of the road, and Madhava is busy with this task. Local organizations and institutions, setting aside caste and religious affiliations, have been wholeheartedly supporting this endeavour. In two years’ time, these saplings are expected to grow into robust trees, lending an elegance and naturally rich look, which is the long-cherished dream of Madhava Ullal.

One hopes that the people will at least realize the natural beauty of trees and their need as well as importance in one's life at least after looking at their elegant presence. Madhava has been putting in lot of efforts towards the success of the scheme. At the same time, his concept of growing greenery everywhere needs to be wholeheartedly supported by the people en masse.

Considering the felling of trees indiscreminately it is quite essential to plant trees on Roadside and in Govt. lands. etc. the pollution will be reduced and the greenery will look beautiful . Planting is not the criterion the plants to be reared and maintained properly by watering during summer days.

For urban landscaping flowering trees are suitable option. There are many varieties of fragrant flowering trees of Indian and South American make the air feel fresh for strollers.

I request nature lover Madhava Ullal to consider planting branches rather than seedlings that can hardly survive hot sun.

Great initiative. A doubt: Who is being permitted or awarded contract to pluck flowers from Nanthoor to Talapady, please? We see practically everyday early morning people collecting flowers from the plants at road divider. Just empty naked plants are left while all flowers gone by 8.00AM.
Lets not come up with the excuse that they are being offered to God. Watering the plants and taking care of the plants is more pleasing to God than stealing flowers and offering to idols.

Great initiative by Madhav Ullal. In the mean time we are aware of NHAI efficiency! Look at the plants on road divider in NH 66!!! Most of them have perished...remaining ones are outsmarted by weeds and grass! No drip irrigation...nothing. I wish some NGOs and MCC would support Madhav Ullal and also perishing plants on NH66.
