Mangalore : 'Milestone' – Old Konkani Hits Take Suratkal Audience Down Memory Lane

Mangalore, Suratkal, Feb 15: 'Milestone', a new musical group formed under the leadership of promising young Konkani musician, Kevin Misquith, presented its first experimental show at the Surathkal Church premises on Sunday Feb 14.
The three-hour non-stop musical entertainment enthralled the audience comprising of connoisseurs of music, who gathered in huge numbers despite the fact that section 144 was in force in and around Surtkal until the last night. The spirit and encouragement received by the group from the audience brought to the fore, the support Konkani language in general, and its music in particular, enjoy from the masses.
'Milestone' show was indeed quite different from the other usual musical nites. Kevin's own compositions as well as super hit songs from yesteryears were the specialty of this programme. The show was a perfect tribute to Konkani greats of yesteryears, who ruled Konkani music in 1960's, 70's etc.
Several memorable numbers of the late Jerome D’Souza, the late Henry T D’Souza, the late Chris Perry, Lawrence Saldanha, Henry D’Souza (Katrina) etc., were sung by a group’s young and promising singers like Kevin Misquith, Melvyn D’Souza, Shailesh Pereira, Carol Veigas, Sherin Walder, Stafny D'Souza and others.
Musicians, Ashwin Sequeira, Lionel Crasta, Sanjay Rodrigues, Floys Pereira, Joel Milan and Deepak, extended excellent support to the singers.
In a brief stage programme held on the occasion, Fr Joseph Mascarenhas, parish priest of Katipalla, Fr Lawrence Martis of Mukka parish, Dony Suares Suratkal, and Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld.com participated as guests. Speaking on the occasion, Walter Nandalike hailed the commitment and dedication showed by a young artiste like Kevin Misquith, who always strives to reach higher by honing his talent, to the cause of Konkani music. He appreciated the huge audiences who were present at the venue, to encourage his talent. He hoped that new experiments in Konkani music will last for long.
Kevin Misquith, who proposed vote of thanks, recollected the support of the sponsors, parish priest, Antony Lobo, and all those who supported his efforts to make this evening possible.
Mangalore's famous comedian duo, Jerry Rasquinha and Joseph Pinto (Duje), entertained the crowd with their jokes.
Alwyn Danthi, well known compere from Pernal, took charge of entire show, and compered the event with his fluent style and beautiful presentation skills.
