Udupi: Workshop on Medical Imaging – NWMI’10 Inaugurated

Udupi, Feb 19: “Medical imaging technology is gaining importance day by day and the need for deep interaction between engineers and medical practitioners is significant for the development of technology which is helpful in the early detection of diseases,” said Dr H S Ballal, pro-chancellor of Manipal University (MU).

He was speaking after inaugurating the two-day national workshop on medical imaging – NWMI 10 at the seminar hall of Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT), here on Thursday February 18. The workshop is being organized by the department of bio-medical engineering.

Dr Raj Warrier, vice-chancellor of MU, addressed the challenges in medical imaging domain. Dr G K Prabhu, registrar of MU, briefed about the development of medical technology and contribution by engineers towards medical technology.

 Brigadier Dr Somnath Mishra, director of MIT presided over the function. The convener of the workshop Dr Ramesh R Galigekere welcomed the gathering and gave overview of the workshop.
 
More than 150 delegates from various institutes will participate in the workshop. It will cover various aspects of medical imaging such as image reconstruction, CT applications, molecular imaging, parallel imaging, MRI, ultrasound imaging and mammography by experts of respective field from IISc Bangalore, MU, GE Healthcare, Philips Electronics India Ltd.
