Mangalore, Feb 21: The Indian Scouting Centenary Express, a special exhibition train, arrived in the city on Sunday February 21 as part of the year-long centenary celebrations of scouting and guiding in India.

The special exhibition train arrived at Mangalore central railway station, after traveling through several cities in Kerala, from Chennai.

The train has three coaches of which two are about scouts and guides while the third is on the heritage of the Indian railways. This train will be at Mangalore central railway station for two days.

Literature on scouts, services rendered by teams during natural calamities such as the tsunami and other disasters, and awareness programmes, are displayed through photos and posters in the compartments.

As an expression of gratitude to the national and state-level leaders, their photographs and brief explanations on their service are also depicted. Handicraft items prepared by the scouts and guides have also been displayed.

This special train, which was inaugurated a month ago in Chennai, with its inspiring literature and adventurous activities, has been attracting children as well as youth.

One compartment of this special train is dedicated to highlighting the advancement and profile of railways through models and posters.

A team of scouts and guides along with scouts chief commissioner of district I A Kairanna and other officers were present when the train chugged into the station.
