M'lore: 110th Ordination Day of Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas Celebrated

Mangalore, Mar 5: The 110th ordination anniversary celebration of the Servant of God Mgr Raymond Mascarenhas commenced with the Eucharistic Sacrifice at Bethany Mother House Chapel and was officiated by Fr Rudolf.

The introduction highlighted the devotion that infused the Eucharistic celebrations, the Servant of God used to offer in the Convent Chapel, built by him.



Speaking on the occasion, Sr Wilberta, the newly elected superior general compared the Servant of God with John Mary Vianney in his pastoral zeal. Reading out a quote of John Mary Vianney, inscribed in the ordination souvenir of the Servant of God Raymond Mascarenhas, she elucidated his priestly services in the dioceses in Karnataka and outside. She reminded the sisters to be committed in their life and mission as the Servant of God was. 

The staff and students of St Theresa’s School, Bendore and Bethany Sisters offered floral tributes to the Servant of God Raymond F C Mascarenhas at his memorial in Bethany Convent campus here.

About Msgr Raymond Mascarenhas

The Servant of God was ordained at Holy Rosary Cathedral Church here by Fr A Cavadini, the then Bishop of Mangalore in the Holy Year on March 4 1900. The first mass was celebrated at Our Lady of Miracles Church, Milagres on March 11. He had his seminary formation at St Joseph’s diocesan seminary.

His  notable contributions to the church are the translation of the New Testament into Konkani for the first time  in the year 1952 , 380 years after the advent of Christianity in Kanara and founding of an indigenous institute known as ‘The Congregation of the Sisters of the Little Flower of Bethany’.
