Mangalore, Mar 24: “The clean and green city movement should be initiated in every house for the city to turn into world’s model city,” said Dr K N Vijayaprakash, commissioner of Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) at the programme ‘Extension Activity on Community Awareness Campaign’ organized by department of commerce in St Agnes College on Wednesday March 24. 

Vijayaprakash, after inaugurating the programme, said that the students associated with clean and green city movement should create awareness in each houses, so that the goal to have a good environment is achieved in our surroundings. The MCC has already taken several initiatives like door-to-door garbage collection and dustbin free area among others, he added.  












































The students have greater responsibility in creating awareness on the environmental issue and initiative taken by the St Agnes College is laudable, he said and added that the MCC has invited global tender for the solid waste management already achieving positive result in the initiatives implemented in the recent years. 

Several organizations in city have come forward to join the movement for proper solid waste management and ward wise awareness programmes are also proposed in this regard, he said. He added that formation of ideal ward will enhance contribution towards a more clean city. 

Dr Deviprabha Alva, co-ordinator of the programme welcomed and briefed about the programme. Dr Manjaiah Shetty, health officer in MCC, principal of the college Sr Maria Prem D’Souza and Sr Supriya, head of the department of commerce were also present.  

Students presented a mime show to create awareness on clean city. Student Meghana Rao conducted the programme.
