Kolkata, Aug 26 (IANS): West Bengal Assembly Speaker Biman Banerjee on Wednesday said that a session of the state Legislative Assembly will begin on September 9.
He said that an all-party meeting has been called on September 8 to decide on the matter.
"This time the session of the state Assembly will be short, unlike the usual ones, due to the Covid-19 pandemic. All members will have to maintain strict Covid protocols during the session. We will discuss about all these details and modalities during the all-party meeting," Banerjee told IANS.
The Speaker said that as per the norms, there can't be a gap of more than six months between two sessions.
"The last session was adjourned in March this year because of the Covid-19 situation. So, the next session must be held by September," he informed. Earlier, the state government had sent a proposal to the Speaker to convene a session in the 295-member Assembly in the first or second week of September, sources said.
