Bantwal, Mar 29:  “The study of folk culture of the land is needed besides exhibiting its forms”, said Prof Tukaram Poojary, president, Rani Abbakka Study Centre, at the valedictory ceremony of  the two-day ‘Dravida Janapada Kalamela’ in Padmanabha Nagar on Sunday March 28.
 
Speaking on the occasion, he said that the culture of this region has connected with agriculture, but the decrease in agricultural land has caused folk culture to disappear. “So, there is need for in depth study of culture of the land to retain it for the future”, he added.
 
Dr K Chinnappa Gowda, registrar, Mangalore University, in his presidential speech said that human life in the modern world has not realized what it is losing and gaining. “So there is need to retain culture”, he said adding that people in the name of caste, creed, religion, and language, have built walls between themselves.
 
Surendra Kumar Hegde, secretary, Kalajagatthu in Mumbai, Tulu Academy members Yogish Kanchan and Premalatha Rao, Beary Academy member Mohammad and others were present.
