Mangalore: Beary Sahitya Academy Recognizes Contributions to Art, Literature

Mangalore, Mar 31: “The culture and heritage of the regional language should reach each corner of the world so that the language can develop and others can understand the values of other languages”, said veteran writer Prof Baragoor Ramachandrappa, at the presentation ceremony of the Karnataka Beary Sahitya Academy honorary awards organized at Town Hall in the city on Wednesday March 31.
Speaking as the chief guest of the programme, he said that the Beary Academy should conduct programmes in various parts of the state as an exchange programme with other languages which will be helpful in creating awareness amongst others about the Beary language.
“Any language can develop through its usage and by exhibiting its cultural and literary values among others”, he added.
“Regional language academies have a greater responsibility of preserving the language along with its culture and heritage for the future”, he said, adding that language when used for a communicative purpose as well as a link to friendship achieved more and will achieve more in future.
District-in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar presented the honorary awards for the year 2009 to scholar Abul Hasan Muhammad Maulavi and Ismail Ustad Suribail, teacher of Beary folk art ‘Duff’, for their service to the language.
The organizers informed that senior scholar Ahmed Noori from Bangalore, who was also named for the award, was absent due to illness and the award will be presented to him at his house.
Palemar said that the Beary community in the coastal region had blended with other communities and was also a part of the lifestyle in this area.
“The culture of this community is rich and broad-minded people have made them achieve everything”, he added.
MLA U T Khader was also a chief guest. Chairman of the academy M B Abdul Rahiman presided over the programme. Academy members Abdul Aziz Baikampady, Muhammad, and C K Mohammad, were also present.
Chandrahasa Rai, B, registrar of the Academy, welcomed all and Hamza Malar, member of the Academy, conducted the programme.
A cultural programme on Beary language was also arranged after the event.
