Mangalore: Day Train to Bangalore Fails to Materialize

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Apr 2: The expected conversion of the tri-weekly day train between the city and Bangalore into daily train, and extending the Mumbai-Karwar super fast train to the city, have failed to fructify. Both these were expected to become reality from April 1 onwards. It is reported, that the department has made all preparations for both these changes, but the Railway Board has not given its green signal.

Railway sources have confirmed that the department does not face any technical or administrative problems in making the above two changes. The only obstacle is obtaining clearance from the Railway Board, and the department is waiting for the same, they added.

The local member of parliament, Nalin Kumar Kateel, said he will meet the minister of state in the department of railways, K H Muniyappa, Railway Board chairman, and other officials during his visit to New Delhi in the second week of this month, to pressurize the concerned to do the needful at the earliest.

It is learnt that the extension of the night train to Kannur has not received the patronage of the people on Kerala section of the line. Sources added that the train remains almost empty between Kannur and the city.
