Doha: Jr Rajkumar Enthralls Kannadigas at Vasanthotsav in Qatar

Doha April, 4: Karnataka Sangha Qatar organized “Vasanthotsava -2010” at ICC premises on Friday April 2.
The cultural fiesta started off with a welcome address by Sangha’s vice-president Mannagi followed by a welcome song sung by the ladies wing of KSQ. Nisaar Ahmed’s creation “Jogada siri” really set the tempo for the whole evening. As part of the Indian tradition the lamp was lit by KSQ president Arun Kumar, Mannangi, advisors Arvind Patil, Milan Arun and Sudha Prabhakar. The master of the ceremony of the evening Gayathri, welcomed the audience and introduced guest artistes from Karnataka Jagdish Shivapur (popularly known as Jr Rajkumar) and Roopa Rani.
Jagdish Shivapur made a grand entry by singing a song from the movie Hosabelaku, “Hosabelaku Moodutide” followed by “Jenina Holeyo” from Chalisuva Modagalu film. Roopa Rani presented her maiden performance in the Gulf by signing Doha dalli Habba Vasantotsava habba- symbolizing “Vasanthotsava 2010”. Then she took us back to the Bayalu Daari days by singing the evergreen song “Banallu Neene”.
The tiny tots of KSQ performed a dance to the Kannada song Mysore Mallige from film Yajamana. The little ones mesmerized the gathered audience by their performance. Roopa Pramod, ladies co-ordinator of KSQ gave away mementos to participating kids and choreographer Akshaya Shetty.
After the dance Jagadish Shivapur sang hit songs of yesteryears like “ Priyatame”, Chinnada mallige huve” and ever popular “Ranga vittala”. Roopa Rani rendered songs from many popular Hindi and Kannada movies and made the crowd swing their hips and tap their feet.
KSQ organized “Men’s Fashion Show” showcasing the evolution of men’s clothing from its inception to this date. Male members of KSQ turned models to bring on stage the attire worn by men from stone age to kachhe panche to the modern day suit with suitably selected famous Kannada, Tulu and Konkani songs to go with it.
Men’s fashion show got the standing ovation from the gathered audience for the unique and novel concept. The concept was visualized and directed by Milan Arun. Manjunath was the script writer. Arun Kumar and Manjunath rendered their voices for the recorded narrative commentary. Arvind Patil gave away the mementos to the participants and director Milan Arun.
Tulu Koota president Ravi Shetty presented mementos to the ladies who sang the welcome song.
Chief guest of the evening was K M Varghese, president of the Indian Cultural Centre, Doha, Qatar.
KSQ teen age children performed an energetic dance to the song “yelumaleyeri” from the film Jogi. The high voltage performance by the teenagers left the audience dumb struck. Sudha Prabhakar gave away mementos to all dancers and choreographer Milan Arun.
On the final session, both Jagdish Shivapur and Roopa Rani sung very popular Kannada songs to take audience back to the memory lanes of golden Era of Kannada Film industry. As a token of appreciation, Arun Kumar and Milan Arun gave away mementos to Jagdish Shivapur and Roopa Rani.
Gathered audience joined Jagdish Shivakumar on the stage for his last song of the day “Huttidare Kannada naadalli huttabeku”. As the finale, bingo was conducted by Prabhakar and Paul.
