Ahmedabad, Sep 14: After receiving a tip-off concerning the smuggling of Indian Made Foreign Liquor worth Rs 18 lac, Local crime branch (LCB) officers successfully raided the consignment. The incident took place on a Sep 12 is reported from rural Ahmedabad. On the basis of the information, the officials had intercepted a closed-container truck on the Sanand bypass road. When inspections of the vehicle were conducted, huge IMFL consignment inside cartons meant for keeping COVID-19 medicines was found.
During patrolling duty, the LCB officials had received information that a truck bearing registration number of Uttar Pradesh would pass via Sanand bypass road with an IMFL consignment. Following which, the officials positioned themselves at the Sanand-Nal Sarovar chowki. When the vehicle approached, the LCB officials asked the vehicle to halt and conducted a thorough inspection of the truck.
During the inspection, they found several cartons kept inside the vehicle. Some of the cartons were bearing labels that read ‘Chemist Bio Security Package COVID-19’, while the labels on the others were of bactericides. Upon opening the cartons, they discovered 4,104 IMFL bottles and 1,776 beer cans inside them, according to a report by Ahmedabad Mirror.
As per the police, the seized liquor consignment is around Rs 18.85 lac. The truck driver, identified as Satyanarayan Dhanak (40) has been detained and is a resident of Chandigarh’s Makwa Colony.
A case in this matter has been registered and investigations are underway.
