Dublin, Apr 6: We live and die; Christ died and lived!  And thus began Christianity. Konkans Ireland celebrated Easter on April 4, 2010.

The event began with a Mass being celebrated at 10.00 am. The mass was celebrated by Fr Darryl as the main celebrant and Fr Jayan as the con celebrant. A beautiful homily was given by Fr Darryl on family and its prosperity.  Fr Darryl then blessed the holy water and gave a prayer to each family present at the Mass, to bless their houses. Before concluding the Mass, Fr Jayan blessed the Charity box, an initiative by Ashok Cutinha, whereby on voluntary basis, families present were asked to put small amounts at their discretion into this box, so that at the end of the year, the money collected in the box could be given to anyone who is found to be in need. The Mass was then concluded with a hymn sung by the choir members of the Konkans Ireland’s group.

After the Mass, an Easter get together was organized. The celebrations started with a welcome talk by the president of the Konkans Ireland group. Thereafter, Ida D’Souza, secretary of the group, gave a brief analysis of the group’s activities and financial standing.

The whole event was compered by Sarita Tauro and Marina Bhore. Games for the children were conducted by Diana Sequeira, in which all the children present, sportingly participated. A small skit, ‘A Sincere Farmer,’ written and directed by Ashok Cuninha, was enacted by the group’s young boys, Astle Cutinho and Jeeson D’Sa.

A singing competition was thereafter conducted by Ashok Cutinha. The competition was adjudged by Fr Darryl and Fr Jayan. There were 15 participants in the competition. Arathi Noronha won this competition, with Ashok Cutinha getting the second spot. Mary was the second runner up. The consolation prize, which was sponsored by Valerian and Kavita Tauro, went to Leena Rodrigues, who sang one of the songs of the late Wilfy Rebimbus.

A sumptuous lunch was served to all the participants. After the lunch, a Jungle Dance was presented by Ajith Sequeira, Diana Sequeira, Santosh Tauro, Vijay Bennis, Roshan Pinto, Charlotte Madtha and Vivian Saldanha. The ‘Antakshari’ programme was conducted by James Bhore. The entire crowd was divided into three teams for this competition and the competition was divided into three rounds, Word Antakshari, Dumb Charades and Dhun round.

The prizes were distributed by Fr Darryl and Fr Jayan. Vote of thanks was proposed by Diana Sequeira and Arathi Noronha.

At the end, the crowd danced their hearts out, to Baila and Bollywood numbers. Thereafter, the participants left the venue of the Easter celebrations with a smile on their faces, and eagerly awaiting for the next Konkans Ireland’s get together.
