Udupi, Oct 1: Good facilities are being provided in the Indian army now. The number of youth joining the army from our district is very less. Though we are ahead in studies, it is sad that we are not available to the Indian army. Officer posts are available if NCC cadets pass ‘C’ examination. Therefore, if we have the motto to join defence forces when we are students, it is possible to live a life of discipline and respect,” said former soldier Harish Poojary sharing his experience in the army. He spoke at the ‘Surgical Strike’ Day held at St Mary’s College.

Principal, Dr Herald Ivan Monis who presided over the programme, opined that it is appropriate to encourage students explaining the importance of the Indian army and the procedure to join it. Senior under officer Bhat Ramadas Sathish spoke on the context of the programme. Harish Poojary was felicitated on the occasion.

College NCC officer Lieutenant K Praveen Kumar, junior division second officer Srijan Williams Veigas, junior under officer Mohan and professor Yashoda Elloor were present on the dais. The teaching and non-teaching staff of the college were present.

Sergeant Raina Andrade said a prayer. Company Sergeant Major Prathima Acharya welcomed the gathering. Junior under officer Pravita Acharya rendered a vote of thanks. Company sergeant Quarter Master Nutan compered the programme.
