Udupi, Oct 1: KPCC former secretary Veronica Corneleo severely condemned the inhuman gang rape of a woman in Atras, Uttar Pradesh, cutting her tongue to prevent her from speaking about her ordeal, preventing her family from seeing her mortal remains after she died and cremating her body by the police at night misusing government machinery.

“The cruel and barbaric incident has made the society bow its head. Women and the entire society need to stand up against such incidents. I congratulate the courage of Tanushree who exposed the incident without getting influenced by anybody’s pressure,” stated Veronica Corneleo in her press release.

“Several such incidents have been coming to light from Uttar Pradesh for some time. Dalit girls are becoming victims of such incidents. The silence of those who should provide justice has made us worried. May there be stern action against the guilty at least in this incident. The Uttar Pradesh government should release maximum possible compensation to the victim’s family and ensure that the accused are sentenced to rigorous punishment,” urged Veronica Corneleo in the release.
