Indian merchandise exports grow over 5% in Sep: Goyal

New Delhi, Oct 2 (IANS): Amid a push for a self-reliant India and growth of domestic industries, the country's merchandise exports registered a 5.27 percent growth in September on a year-on-year basis, Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal said on Thursday.

Total merchandise exports from India stood at $27.40 billion last month, compared to $26.02 billion in September 2019.

In a tweet, the minister cited the growth in exports as another indicator of the recovery of the Indian economy amid the pandemic.

"Make in India, Make for the World: Indian merchandise exports grow 5.27 percent on Sep 20 as compared to last year. Another indicator of the rapid recovery of the Indian economy as it surpasses pre-COVID levels across parameters," he tweeted.

It's not correct to say that there is rise in export considering just one month. For that matter, there were vast volume of imported goods in the port to be released, from the time Lockdown imposed. Once those items are released, do you consider it June imports ? July or August imports ? 5% growth is minute as compared to imports of all six months.

    That is a positive spin.

If the minister provides the numbers for 4 months (June-September) in comparison to the previous year's figures for the same period, it will show negative!

    There were no flights.
