Mangaluru: Dramatist, retired banker Attavar Shivananda Karkera passes away

Mangaluru, Oct 8: Attavar Shivananda Karkera, a well-known organizer and Tulu, Kannada litterateur, left for the heavenly abode on the evening of Wednesday October 7. He was the author of play, 'Eru Mainde', former Tulu Academy member, Tulu MA first batch student and retired officer of Syndicate Bank.

Karkera had bagged the academy awards for his collection of poems titled 'Kadal' and play, 'Eru Mainde'. He also was the former president of Gokarnanatha Cooperative Bank and founder vice president of 'Yakshangana'. He happened to be the founder of 'Sweekar' literary and cultural association.

The deceased was a well-experienced organizer of Tulu programmes. He was friendly, simple and a noble human being.

    He was eldest MA Tulu student and had a sportsman spirit of teanager. Even at the age of 68, he was participating every cultural activity and sports events. We will miss you KarkeraSir.

    It is very regretting to note about the sudden death of Shivananda Karkera who was a tulu poet, writer and dramatist. He has encouraged me a lot in writing tulu poems. Because of his coaxing I started to write in Tulu (poems) and my maiden poetry about COCOA COALA was written and read at Mangaladevi Temple stage. So i always cherish his memories . May his soul Rest In Peace.

    Very sad.a good friend of mine.simple band afiable besides being a regular mrning Walker from pandeshear to Nehru maidan.i am shocked,the other day only he spoke to me about a few of our friends eho passed away resently may his doul test for m peace and eternal light shine on him
