Kaup, Oct 8: In an incident which happened at Padubidri town in the early hours of Wednesday October 7, a theft attempt was foiled, thanks to the timely action taken by newspaper distributors. The thief, however, succeeded in escaping after attacking a policeman and leaving him injured.
An unidentified man taking advantage of light rains experienced in Padubidri town was moving around suspiciously. A few newspaper distributors who had gathered to sort out newspapers saw him mysteriously hanging around. The newspaper distributors soon found that the man was trying to break open a salon. They immediately called the Padubidri police station and informed them.
Two policemen came there shortly in a motorbike. One of them, Yogeesh caught hold of the thief. The thief instead questioned the policeman what he wanted and swung an iron rod he was holding at Yogeesh. Yogeesh received deep injury to his nose but escaped from further bodily injuries as he was wearing the raincoat and helmet.
The thief wriggled himself out of the policeman's crip and ran into the inner road leading towards Abbedy. Yogeesh along with his colleague chased him but could not catch hold of him.
The newspaper distributors said they often see women walking alone in the early hours when the roads are deserted. Specifically, those wearing ornaments expose themselves to grave risk, they feel, from some youngsters who are often seen loitering aimlessly at that hour.
The station house officer of Padubidri station Dileep said that they have taken note of the seriousness of the incident and will make all out efforts to find out the thief.
