US, China to Hold Human Rights Talks in May

Washington, April 23 (IANS) The US and China will hold talks on human rights May 13-14 here, the US State Department said Thursday.

Assistant secretary for democracy, human rights and labour Michael Posner will lead the US delegation, while Chen Xu, director general for international organisations of the foreign affairs ministry, will head the Chinese side, Xinhua reported.

The dialogue had been delayed due to tensions between Washington and Beijing over US arms sale to Taiwan and President Barack Obama's meeting with the Dalai Lama early this year. The talks were originally planned for February end.
