Udupi, Oct 22: The weavers training programme for Udupi saree weavers organized by Kadike Trust with Nabard grant at Talipady Weavers Society concluded on October 17.
Ten new weavers were trained for four months in this programme and joined the Talipady Weavers Society as members. Udupi saree weaving which was on the verge of extinction is on a revival path after Kadike Trust started Save Udupi Saree Campaign. In this positive development, new weavers are joining the weaving profession after many decades in DK and Udupi districts.
Arun Kumar, DGM of Nabard Karnataka along with Sangeetha Kartha, DDM of Mangaluru visited the training center and interacted with the weavers and the trainees. Later in the closing ceremony, they expressed their satisfaction with the training programme by Kadike Trust and assured about the further support from the institution for similar programmes.
Mamatha Rai, president of Kadike Trust gave a brief description about the latest development after the Udupi Saree revival work by Kadike Trust.
New weaver members were welcomed with shawls by senior weavers of the society.
Ananda Shettigar, president of the society and senior trainer, Mohini Shettigar senior trainer, Madhava Shettigar MD of Talipady Society, Chikkappa Shetty secretary of Kadike Trust and weavers of the society were present.
