Udupi: DC Jagadeesha calls for upliftment of Tulu, Kannada language on 65th Kannada Rajyotsava

Udupi, Nov 1: 65th Kannada Rajyotsava was observed by the district administration of Udupi along with the district level Kannada Rajyotsava celebration committee at the Mahatma Gandhi stadium Ajjarkad here on Sunday, November 1.

The deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha garlanded the statue of Bhuvaneshwari and hoisted the flag. Following which he delivered a speech on the occasion. The DC also received the guard of honour from the different wings of the police department. A beautiful march past performed by civil police, coastal guard, home guard, forest department, traffic police, police band and others.



DC Jagadeesha addressing the gathering said, "Today we all are facing challenging situations. The cooperation and coordination of all are important to fight against the Covid-19. Let Goddess Bhuvaneshwari Devi bless us all with good health and wealth. We all need to work together to make sure government schemes and plans reach the ones in need."
"The district will be provided with a government hospital with a 250-bed facility along with 197 staff at the cost of Rs 115 crore. The permission for this has been already approved by the state government. It will be helpful in providing quality healthcare services to the people of the district," he added.

"Government has taken a good step by working towards the development of Byndoor, Yedthare and Paduvari village panchayat to town panchayat. Further, another proud moment for the Udupi was Padubidri beach receiving the international Blue Flag tag," the DC said.

DC Jagadeesha also epitomised on the history of the unification of Karnataka. "There were many people who sacrificed their lives for the unification of Karnataka including people like, Aluru Venkataraya, Deputy Channabasappa, B M Srikantayya and so on. There are scholars, writers who have contributed immensely towards Kannada literature and their achievements are unforgettable and they are the likes of Kuvempu, Bendre, Masti, Gokak, Shivaram Karanth, Chandrashekhara Kambara."

"Udupi is recognized as a part of 'Kannada Nadu' since ancient times. Tulu is the mother tongue but Kannada is used in the sectors of administration and education. Therefore, it is our responsibility as individuals to work for the upliftment of both of these languages."

"Today there is no necessity to resort to war for establishing a Kannada province. On the other hand, developing, cultivating and passing on the essence of Kannada language to the next generation is also a challenge. The current generation is of the computer era and is influenced by other languages mainly English. Let us put our honest effort to preserve and promote Kannada language," the DC urged.

In the ceremony, laptops were distributed to nine students of government schools who secured high marks in the SSLC examination. As part of the commemoration of freedom fighter Jadaga and Bala, social welfare department presented Rs 1 lac to the high scorer in SSLC exam, who belonged to the SC/ST community. The students were Spoorthi Ashok Rathod, student of Mahalakshmi English Medium High School and Rashmitha student of Kollur Sri Mookambika High School. The district-level Kannada Rajyotsava award was presented to 36 achievers and four organizations in the district.

MLA Raghupati Bhat, Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde president, Coastal Development Authority, Dinakar Babu president zilla panchayat, Raghavendra Kini president, Udupi Urban Development Authority, Sumitra Nayak president, City Municipal Council, Lakshmi Manjunath vice president, CMC, Dr Naveen Bhat CEO, zilla panchayat, S P Vishnuvardhan, superintendent of police Sadashiva Prabhu, ADC and Neelavara Surendra Adiga president, District Kannada Sahitya Parishad were present.

A webcast via Facebook Live of the ceremony was arranged so that the public can watch the event at home.
