Puttur, Nov 7: Dolphy A Rego (63), a senior Congress leader and former member of the municipal council here, breathed his last due to heart attack at a private hospital in Darbe here on Friday November 6. He was the son of the late Alex Rego and the late Pauline Rego and resident of Panglayi here.
Dolphy Rego was at his home at Panglayi when on Friday evening he suddenly complained of chest pain. He was immediately rushed to a pirate hospital at Darbe. He however, did not respond to treatments, and passed away.
Before shifting his residence to Panglayi, the deceased was residing at Rego Complex at Darbe. He had served as municipal councillor here twice in the past. He also had worked as the president of Puttur youth Congress committee, president of city Congress unit and member of the district Congress committee. He was twice the vice president of the parish council of Mai De Deus Church here, besides being the president of Don Bosco Club.
Dolphy was a good leather ball cricket player and was the captain of Puttur Colts Club and member of the state volleyball team. He played cricket for Mysore University.
He is survived by wife Leena Rebello, daughter Jaqueline Crystal, son Dallen, brother Hector Rego Surat, sister Harriet Bombay and Ivi Bombay. Chief priest of Mai De Deus church here, Fr Lawrence Mascarenhas, assistant priest Fr Larry Pinto, parish council vice president Maurice Mascarenhas, former vice president J P Rodrigues, Jiyo D'Souza, John Cutinha, secretary Fabian Goveas, finance committee members V J Fernandes and Vincent Tauro, municipal former councillor Lancy Mascarenhas Puttur, youth Congress former president Arshad Darbe, Rotary district secretary, Oscar Anand, Christopher Association president, Roshan Dias and members, Christian Life community president Martin D’Souza and members, Don Bosco Club president Arun Rebello and members, nuns and others visited the hospital when the mortal remains were kept there, and paid their respects besides consoling the grieving members of the bereaved family.
