Mangaluru, Nov 13: The Internal Quality Assurance Cell of St Agnes College (Autonomous), here, on November 12 organised the VI Mother Mary Aloysia AC Endowment Lecture.

Mother Mary Aloysia AC was a far-sighted visionary who started St Agnes College (Autonomous) for women in 1921. This year, is the sesquicentennial jubilee of the Apostolic Carmel Congregation which first took up the initiative to educate women on the west coast of India. On this occasion, an endowment lecture on ‘Remapping and Radical Transformations: The Apostolic Carmel Congregations' contribution to education’ was taken up.

Dr Geralyn Pinto, the former HOD and associate professor of the PG Department of English at St Agnes College (Autonomous), here, was the speaker. She is a creative writer who has published and won prizes in India and abroad. She divided her lecture into two parts. The first part was a recounting of the work of women of valour. It was replete with familiar names, places, dates and institutions. The second part offered a more analytical examination of the significant additions made by these religious Sisters to the remapping of the lives of women in society that was already waking up to the ideas of nationalism, freedom from colonial rule, democracy and the upliftment of women. The lecture focused on the complex range of interactions and influences that resulted from this historical encounter of Christianity and Christian education with the different indigenous faith traditions, thinking and practices, especially of the South Kanara region. The lecture was well presented and inspirational.

Dr Ita D’Souza, IQAC coordinator welcomed the gathering, Dr Neethu, the dean of Commerce proposed the vote of thanks while Marina Pinto, IQAC Secretary compered the programme. The programme was enabled via google meet.
