Udupi: MP Shobha Karandlaje's gifts make country's women leaders ecstatic

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, Nov 18: On the occasion of Deepavali, Udupi-Chikkamagaluru MP Shobha Karandlaje, presented some unique gifts to several women leaders at the centre including minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

Nirmala Sitharaman, Smriti Irani, Maneka Gandhi, Shefali Vaidya, Debashree, Meenakshi Lekhi, Vanathi, and DMK leader Kanimozhi, were some of the women who received gifts from Shobha. The MP had procured saris made at handlooms of Udupi and gifted them to the national level leaders and wished them on the occasion of Diwali. With this, she also made an effort to introduce the handlooms of Udupi to these leaders. Shefali expressed her glee at getting a beautiful sari on twitter.

"I have received a gift from BJP MP Shobha Karandlaje, on the occasion of Diwali. The sari made by handloom at Udupi is good. We need to notice that by this, she is making an effort to promote the local handloom and artefacts. Thanks to Shobha," she said. She also shared a photo of the sari.

In response, Karandlaje said that she is happy that the sari from Udupi was liked by Shefali. She said that she had seen that on Fridays, Udupi Lord Krishna used to be worshipped in the form of Goddess Laxmi by draping a sari around the idol and that Sri Ishapriya Theertha Swamiji has spoken about the proposal to revive this tradition. She said that her main aim is to extend support to skilled weavers. Shobha who sent the saris along with a letter on November 13, said that chose a local product in the form of gift in tune with the concept of 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' promoted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and about the need to extend financial support to rural artisans.

Please think about the poor. Why gift sarees to the affluent? The poor will give you thanks and pray for you.
    Pure publicity stunt.

Shobakka ,I didnt recieve any present from you for Diwali,or any of our poor women ,who would have been very very thankful to you and would get one more vote in your next election .Was the saree bought from you personally from your money or as a present ,like a advt.packet from wavers fabric?Be honest. Some might have praised you for your big heart. All other people are say one thing. That what you did is not good .It is pure a big advertisement. If it was for a poor woman who works in roadwork, she would be grateful all her life long.

Taxpayers money spent on incompetent women politicians who keep mum when their party leaders and members rape and kill women and children. What a gift!

If her motive was to promote Udupi Sarees to women, she shouldn't have decided to gift only the women from her party. She should have figured to others as well. She did give to Kani, but what about the rest. Still i sincerely hope our weavers are benefited.

People would have appreciated Shobha Karandlaje if she had distributed sarees to the women of BPL card holders of her constituency instead of distributing sarees to her own party leaders! This is nothing but publicity!

Distributed saries to her own party leaders and top heads as if they cannot afford to spare few thousands to buy he sari of their choice.
There thousands of low income women in district who cannot afford to spend few hundred to buy good cloth and distributing gifts among them worth while.

MP Shobha Karandlaje's gifts make country's women leaders ecstatic..

Whilst sending the gifts to her own party members, she could have also sent to Congress women leaders like Sonia Gandhi, Margeret Alva, Mamta Banerjee, Mayawati, Ambika Soni, Supriya etc.

Good she is promoting Udupi sarees but at whose cost??? Money from her pocket or the taxpayers?? Is people like Shefali Vaidya are getting the sarees from Shobha at tax payers money, then God save the country. Our money has gone in drain.

And greater gesture is even opposition women leaders were gifted!

In fact Shobakka has also done good work in and around her region. Also accessible on her mobile at any point of time and has solutions , unlike certain leaders. No wonder she was elected repeatedly. BJP has really dug in deep in Udupi and DK. Its become a 'badrakote' of the saffron party.
