Mangalore, May 17: The ice cream eating competition held at Kadri Park attracted many children on Sunday May 16.
The contest organized by JCI and Dinky Dine challenged the children’s talent in eating what they love. The light ice-cream provided to the children attracted them with its taste, but only a few were selected for the prize.

There were 150 participants in the competition.

Children in the age group 5-9 participated in the junior category and those aged 9-12 participated in senior category.

The first place winner in the junior category, Dhruva, ate the ice cream in 1.53 minutes.

Preethi, second place winner, ate in 1.54 minutes and third place winner Mayoor in 1.58 minutes.

Abhijay, a 11-year-old boy won the fist place in senior category by eating one ice cream in 38 seconds. Sherya won the second place by eating it in 1.10 minutes and the third place went to Bilal who ate in 1.15 minutes.

It is the 17th year that JCI and Dinky Dine have jointly organized this programme.

Swarna Sunder, owner of Dinky Dine Ice Creams, inaugurated the competition.

Jagadeesh Bangera, president of JCI, welcomed all. JCI Vishnu Mayya compered the programme.

Ice…. WOW… this moment cannot be explained, this needs to be experienced…. Don’t miss this next time.

Dear Friends, let me take this opportunity to thank Mr. Ruchir Agarwal for the positive comments with the example of his own child.

Friends let me make you understand that this is not a talents hunt. This is an opportunity given to the children to enjoy for a while. And we all know that kids will love eating ice cream.

Since this is only for small children, kids come along with their parents. And the competition will be held in front of parents and definitely parents will have 100% observation on their child.

We don’t find any risk in this competition and we have a very good responds from the parents. If this was a risky will any of the parents allow their child to participate? The fact is consistently we are getting 200 participants every year, and forcefully we shutdown the registration counter because of some technical problems. And we find parents who will encourage kids and well supportive for such competitions.

My humble request is those who have negative thought about this competition, please do attend the competition next year and feel the moment. Please do not judge such activities looking at the photos published on the news site.
Every year people wait for this competition. And I am sure that many of you would have missed this competition because of reasons.

    BE POSITIVE AND THINK POSITIVE…….

It is a very nice competition for childrens. These competitions will motivate the childrens to take part in the similar type of competitions. And also it will boost the morale among the childrens.

Mr. Aldrin Vas, take it in a positive manner. I am not in any kind of business to distribute ice cream or any other product free of cost. Pictures are the proof how these children gulp ice cream. As Mr.Hemanth from Bangalore rightly comments, are you searching for any kind of talent from this competition?

What sort of a competition is this that you boast of conducting for the last 17 years? I only appeal to the parents of like minded to think twice before sending their children for such competitions. I only wish these little children don't suffer because of your competition. Wish you all the best in the years to come. May God bless you.

When living, walking, or driving on the roads of Mangalore today is a greater risk than eating ice cream, I am sure people will enjoy the lesser of the two evils. Its a fun competition an I am sure the organisers had made arrangements for the safety of teh competitors. Congratulations Winners!

As a organiser of this event i want to clarify that we take maximum precaution during this competition. Only one small piece of ice cream is given to children and whoever eats it with minimum timing wins. There is no time limit or we don’t pressurise them to eat fast. 90% of the children take their own time and just enjoy eating ice cream. There is no second round or finals.

As a health precaution this year we had strictly made the rule that participants should use only the 2 spoons given to them and were restricted to use their hands or put their mouth directly into the ice cream.

JCI Mangalore & Dinky Dine have been conductin this event from past 17 years and thousands of children who participated are healthy and safe.
We also love children will not try to get cheap publicity putting them into health problems.
    Children just came and enjoy.

Mr Santosh u cant compare ice cream eating to coke drinkin. Everyone knows coke itself is bad for health.

Percy Noronha next time when u visit mangalore distribute ice cream to children at the park so that u get some publicity. JCI Mangalore is well known and don’t need cheap publicity which ur thinking. If possible also visit our competition next summer so that u can see the positive side and the way children enjoy this event.

These type competitions are not advisable for small kids.it may give adverse effects.let companies hold sports events, intellectual competitions like quiz, drawing etc and distribute your products as gift hampers.

Very bad competition for the children. I had commented on this competition last year and many had similar views. I suggest the organisers to distribute ice cream to these children on some occasion at the park free of cost which might give them better publicity.I like the way Mr. Santhosh Bhandary has given his comment.

Such competitions can sometimes prove life threatening if not conducted and supervised properly. Potential for choking is very high since it involves children as young as five year olds. It can be recalled a school boy lost his life during a coke drinking competition due to high carbon dioxide ingestion. I am not discouraging the spirit of competition but the organisers of such events need to exercise caution to avoid any untoward incident.
