Udupi, Nov 30: Sakala week was inaugurated via video conference on Monday by the minister of state for primary and secondary education S Suresh Kumar. Speaking on the occasion, Kumar said, “The Sakala scheme is announced so that people receive services within a stipulated time and the concerned departments should ensure the scheme is implemented effectively."

Following the inauguration of the Sakala week, Kumar spoke with the department secretaries and deputy commissioners of the state.

“Initially, over 151 services were provided under various departments through the Sakala scheme. Now, there are more than 1,025 services that are being provided across 98 departments," he said.

“Due to the unprecedented situations brought on by the coronavirus, the Sakala scheme faced a lot of setbacks. The Sakala week is being held from November 30 to December 5 to expedite the process in the department of urban development, revenue, civil supplies and consumer department. Applications for services should be received under Sakala and disposed of within the stipulated period and not rejected for trivial reasons. The pending applications should be disposed of soon,” Kumar said.

“Sakala scheme has been implemented so that regular people receive services within a certain period of time. Over 22,82,55,866 applications have disposed of so far and 22,88,81,652 applications have been submitted. Mandya district has come out first in the disposal of applications this month. Chikkamagaluru came in second and Chikkaballapur is in the third position. Raichur and Bengaluru have come last. Maximum numbers of applications have been received in Bengaluru and Raichur,” he said.

“Various department secretaries and deputy commissioners should join hands for the effective functioning of the Sakala scheme. They should supervise the work taken up by the departments under the Sakala scheme,” he said.

“Every department should display board about Sakala services in their office. They should obtain feedback on the services from the people,” he added.

Government’s chief secretary Vijay Bhaskar said that the officials should create awareness regarding Sakala among people so that maximum people receive the services.

Additional chief secretary Rajiv Chawla, Sakala scheme, additional mission director Dr B R Mamatha, deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha, additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, district panchayat deputy secretary Kiran Padnekar and others were present.
