Second Covid wave in Karnataka expected between Jan-Feb 2021: TAC

Daijiworld Media Network - Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Dec 2: The Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) has made a slew of recommendations in a bid to contain the second wave of the pandemic expected in early 2021 including banning public celebrations ahead of the new year. However, the government said it was yet to take a call on the matter.

The second wave of the pandemic was expected in January-February next year, TAC warned and has asked to keep ready by the first week of January, clinical facilities at October level (when cases per day were about 10,000) in terms of beds, ICUs, ventilators, and so on, both in government and private hospitals or this could be ramped up at a short notice of 2-3 days maximum. Further, it has recommended big gatherings including a ban on new year public celebrations from December 26 to January 1 and impose night curfew (8 pm to 5 am) during this period.

The TAC has given an advisory on recognition and containment measures for the second wave of Covid-19 in Karnataka based on the deliberations at its 53rd meeting held on November 24. According to TAC, early recognition of the second wave of COVID-19 in the state can be done by closely monitoring the 7-day average growth rate and reproduction number (R0) at district and state levels. It said an epidemic intelligence team shall be supporting the state war room for early recognition of the second wave and alert the additional chief secretary and commissioner of the health and family welfare department.

Speaking to reporters here, health minister Dr Sudhakar said a meeting will be held at the government level regarding the TAC recommendations. "Our positivity rate is less than 1.2 per cent. The report of the TAC states that there may be a second wave. A meeting regarding this will be held in a couple of days. Based on the outcome of the meeting, discussions will be held with the chief minister and the final decisions will be taken," he said.

He said no decision has been taken on the night curfew and a meeting is yet to take place to discuss the recommendations. The USA, Europe, Australia, and other countries have witnessed the second wave of Covid-19. Within the country states like Delhi, Haryana, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Kerala, and other states have also witnessed a surge in cases, therefore, it is now considered important for Karnataka to prepare for a possible second wave of Covid-19.

Experts say that the second wave is usually anticipated three to four months after the first spike or wave which is possibly January- February 2021 in case of Karnataka. This is factoring in winter, unlocking progress, weak enforcements, population movements, etc. Noting that a minimum of 1.25 lac tests per day should continue till the end of February 2021, of which one lakh shall be RT-PCR ( 1:5 pooled in lab as per state protocol), the TAC advisory recommends for fortnightly testing of all teachers, pupils, and staff in educational institutions, Anganwadi staff, and others by RT-PCR. TAC has suggested exploring Covid Care Centres (CCCs) to be run on PPP model with reputed NGOs for better facilities, services, and stress on the need for ramping up clinical facilities.

Other recommendations by TAC include, after carefully assessing the Covid-19 situation in the last week of December, graded opening of schools from January may be considered, i.e. classes 12 and 10 to initially from January and classes 11 and 9 to follow later on. TAC has also recommended restriction of mass gatherings like fairs and festivals, religious congregations, cultural events, etc, and to strictly restrict super spreader events during December and January (winter months) like permitting events only in open areas like marriages, etc with a cap of 100 people. It could be 200 for political and public events, up to 50 in death ceremonies and 20 in funerals.

TAC has suggested stringent measures to be enforced including the usage of facemasks, having marshals/police fine violators of the rule in busy areas like markets, bus stops, commercial areas, buses, and traffic junctions. It also suggested introducing tough action as being done in Madhya Pradesh, imprisonment of a few hours for mask violators for citizens so that they take the warning seriously.

Whether we accept it or not, I am afraid the second Covid wave is bound to happen. I am basing my prediction on the attitude of the people. People are moving around thinking that the pandemic is behind us. Marriages and functions are in full swing. Marriage halls are packed to capacity and barring a handful of people, the others are without masks. Buses are crowded, there is no social distancing and the worst part is people appear to be convinced that we have conquered Covid. The government, for fear of people remaining indoors leading to a slump in business, has stopped advising the people. It is business as usual.
All this is bound to have a deleterious impact on us. India can't afford to lower its guard and India can't afford a second lockdown. However, if we wear our masks and follow social distancing strictly, perhaps we can limit the effect of the second wave. The government must seriously consider introducing the night curfew so that the people remain vigilant and don't lose sight of the fact that we are yet to come out of the Covid.

These experts are just following WHO fear mongering of second & third wave narrative.
This done to market the vaccines, if nobody gets scared then nobody will be ready to opt for them as 59% of people are against them according to recent survey.
About the tests which they want teachers & students to go through every fortnight another marketing trick which needs to be investigated to find out if anybody has got kickbacks.
Students are the least vulnerable of the lot & fearmongering needs to stop, along with dubious test which the Test Kit Maker himself claiming the pandemic using his kits itself is a hoax.
These figures prove it is not dreaded disease either requiring lock down or draconian measures-
    0 to 19 years- 0.0003%
    20 to 49 years 0.0002%
    50 to 69 years 0.005%
    70+ years 0.054%
Stop the tests & no more waves but only back to our Old Normal which can help our nation compete with other top economies again.

    My dear
Its not blindly following WHO, but the real eruption of the second wave in European countries & even Pakistan & many places in India itself!

Also deadly bird flue eruptions are being reported from many places around the world!

These are the facts, nothing to do with WHO!!

IMHO, a second wave is inevitable after the festival season!

The wave itself is fake narrative, the probable mortality rate based on present pandemic is hidden from media & public which I have quoted from their official site.
If you read between the lines then only you can realize it is creation or Planned-emic to benefit vaccine industry.
In those countries where there were no lock downs or all the protocols issued by WHO there is no wave at all. The test kit maker himself is calling it hoax, Pfizer ex CEO has called openly to end vaccines as pandemic infection has ended.
Only the govts. who have taken away freedom from people wants the waves to take permanent control & if you look at the death data of past years the death rate in 2020 is at same level, why?

    Dev,

I too am against the vaccine, but for sure another wave, more virulent, is in the offing after the festival season is over! Its the rule of nature; after a big jolt there r a series of after shocks till the thing settles down!

BTW, Pfizer CEO is licking his wounds, for whatever reason, after earning his millions by working there!

    @ Rudolf, Mumbai,
If you have read my past comments then you would realize the first wave itself was hoax which is only the creation of vaccine industry in collusion with China, Gates & WHO.
The pandemic status granted to this viral infection itself was wrong based on imaginary software estimate as agreed by those UK based scientists who admitted their mistake.
Any viral infection will only last for 2 years course, which causes more deaths in the beginning & afterwards it becomes less deadly & vanes. Even present fake pandemic is based on a test that detects the dead particles of RNA which doesn't prove it is due to corona or other 120000 viruses that exist in our nature.
Every Flu Season in Europe or other colder regions takes the same number of lives in winter, but this case doesn't apply to tropical countries which have sunshine in those times.
The more people got infected the less will be chance for second wave or any other wave through herd immunity. Nobody can hide inside their homes or lock down permanently to prevent the infection even if they use masks or keep the distance, we can only postpone the inevitable.
For any infection that has 0.024% mortality rate there is no need to declare a pandemic or to shut down the country as there are no spikes in deaths this year compared to past years, which proves fake media created this hype as they got paid by the Gates to create this hoax, which they had failed in 2009 with SARS & H1N1 plan as media had then exposed their evil design, but this time they took the foreign media on board through slush funds, Now you will only hear number of infections not revealing deaths with corona & not due to corona.
Even in US it is confirmed only 6% deaths were attributed to corona which is only 12000 deaths leaving out other morbid reasons which had total number of 22500 till today.

People have become very complacent & even risking holding of public functions during such a critical time; the second wave is said to be more virulent!
Nobody is following the protocol anymore; bars & restaurants are full, even tipplers are allowed to smoke inside to attract more customers, not understanding that this greed will again cause them heavy losses when restrictions are forced!

The authorities should be proactive & get ready for the inevitable!
Instead of people pleasing, it's time to ban all types of
public gatherings much before the festival season to avoid a big crisis!
