Mangalore: Archbishop of Delhi Inaugurates ‘Luciana’, Home for Senior Citizens

Mangalore, May 20: ‘Luciana’, a home for senior citizens was inaugurated by Dr Vincent Concesso, Archbishop of Delhi at Pilikula road, Vamanjoor here on Thursday May 20.
Inauguration was followed by a mass at 11.am. Dr Vincent Concesso, the main celebrant of the mass in his message stressed the need for dedicated service and commitment in every human task. Giving the example of a mother who cooks for the entire family and feels happy about it, he said that each one of us should serve for others which will give us lot of satisfaction and joy. Every one of us should respect each other and their service, no matter how big or small it is, he added.
After delivering a thought-provoking message, the altar was blessed by archbishop. Fr Ravi Santhosh Kamath, Fr Peter Noronha, Fr Walter D’Mello and Fr Cyprian D’Souza were the concelebrants of the mass.
Luciana has been the dream project of Vincent and Mabel Rodricks. Vincent is the son of Lucy and Bonaventure Rodrigues of Valencia parish and Mabel, the daughter of Carolina and Benjamin Goveas of Bendore parish.
A stage programme was held after the holy mass. Marissa Noronha compered the programme. Anne Goveas welcomed the gathering. Vincent and Mabel Rodricks were honoured by the Archbishop.
A brief report about Luciana project was given by Ashok Prabhu. Luciana has 22 fully furnished rooms with attached bath. There is a chapel, recreation hall, fully equipped kitchen and dining room. It also has back-up generator, solar heaters, computerized office, TV, video, 24 hours water supply from bore well and telephone among other facilities. Luciana also has Pilikula park and international golf course as its neighbours.
Speaking on the occasion, Fr Ravi Santhosh Kamath said that it was a great pleasure to have Dr Vincent Concesso among the gathering as he is one of the most influential and eminent figures in the country. Lauding the efforts of Mabel and Vincent Rodricks, he said that a home for senior citizen is one of the best ways of service. “Building huge monuments for the departed souls is no big deal but setting up a conducive homely environment for the people in nee is a real great work”, he added.
Luciana will be managed by the ‘Sisters of St Joseph of St Marc’ is an international missionary congregation and they have three such homes in India. Sr Geetha, provincial, Sisters of St Josephs of St Marc, said that it is mainly due to God’s blessings such a project was possible which will be of great help to many elderly citizens. She also lauded Vincent and Mabel Rodricks for their generosity.
Melissa Rodrigues, niece of Mabel and Vincent Rodricks addressed the gathering on behalf of them. She acknowledged each one who has strived to bring up the project.
The project was planned, supervised and managed by Harold Goveas together with architect Neville D’Souza, contractor Rama Maistry, electrician and plumber Gerald Monteiro. All were felicitated on the occasion.
