Mangalore : Death Embraces ... With Myriad Pretexts

Mangalore. May 23: Except for the providential escape for the 8 passengers who survived the air crash tragedy in Mangalore yesterday it was a dooms day for 158 passengers who lost their lives.  One can only say there were myriad reasons or pretexts for these unlucky passengers to embrace death by boarding the same plane and by travelling on the same day, in what is said to be one of the worst tragedies in India’s aviation history. 

Jayaram, Chaitra and Rahul

Bajal resident Jayaram was coming to Mangalore along with wife Chitra and son Rahul to see his ailing parents.  He was supposed to arrive in Mangalore 2 days before but due to delay in getting the tickets the family boarded the ill-fated plane and met with untimely death.  Only if he were to come 2 days earlier …..

Jayaram was settled in Dubai with the family for the last 17 years.  Just three months back he had come to Mangalore and returned.  

Kannur residents  Zulekha Banu (42) Shahida Nushrathar (28) Zeeshan Abdul Rehaman (8 months) and Nazeema Mohammedshraf (20) had come to attend a family wedding to be held at Edapadavu, lined up for  May 25. 

Shabeer Ali of Uchhila in Udupi was coming to Mangalore to partake in his sister’s engagement function.   Joel Fernandes (16) , a second year PUC student from Mangalore was  returning home after spending his holidays with  his parents who were in Dubai. 

Usman Kakkinje had come to see his mother who was sick. 

Resident of Bajpe Permude Satheesh  (35)  who  is working as a Manager in Pepsico in Dubai was coming for his wife’s seemantha and also for the house warming ceremony.

There was some ray of hope for Kerala resident Pradeep Maanadka when a television channel in Kerala announced that Pradeep had survived the crash.  But their joy was short lived as it was Predeep of Tanneerbavi who had survived. 

Udupi Kolalagiri resident Hilda D Souza who was employed in Dubai was coming to see her ailing husband who was under going treatment in KMC Hospital but did not succeed in her mission.  Just a few weeks before she had returned to Dubai following slight improvements in the health of her husband who was sick.

Naveed Ibrahim who was working in Dubai was returning home for the first time.  

Meenu Gupta (40) who is actually from the north was visiting her son who is a MBBS student in Manipal.
