Mangaluru, Dec 7: Provocative writings on walls fall under the ambit of anti-national activities. Therefore, such incidents need to be investigated by an officer not below the rank of assistant commissioner of police (ACP). Therefore, ACP Jagannath of the central sub-division here has been appointed as investigating officer for these incidents.
During their questioning, the accused reportedly said they used to watch terrorist activities through Youtube and other social media sites. As such, the cases are being investigated with added seriousness.
When the accused were produced in the court on Sunday, the judge asked them to be subjected to corona tests. The police said that the tests would be performed on Monday December 7. The test report would be ready in two days, and after that the police will seek the custody of the accused as they need to question them further.
Mohammed Shaarik (22) and Maz Munir Ahammed (21) are from Thirthahalli, Shivamogga district. Going by the open support announced by them to Lashkar-e-Toiba terror outfit through the graffiti, the police suspect that they might have planned terrorist attack on the lines of Mumbai terrorist attack. The graffiti on the court wall was created on November 9, but because it was in Urdu, people did not understand it and therefore it did not hog the limelight. Frustrated by the fact that their work went waste, the accused created another writing on the compound wall of a residential complex neat Bejai Battagudda early morning on November 27 between 4 and 4.30 am. Even though the case was complicated, the police could crack it in six days.
