Udupi: Proposal to use Yakshagana, folklore to create electoral awareness

Udupi, Dec 17: The department of information and public relations has planned to utilise the services of Yakshagana, which is a popular art form of coastal Karnataka, and other folklore art forms to create awareness among the people about the importance of voting in the coming gram panchayat elections on December 22 and 27 in the district.

Artistes of Subrahmanya Yakshagana Kalamandali here have been spreading awareness and knowledge about polling in several villages in the district. They have been urging the voters to be alert against falling prey to electoral lure. The artistes have been urging the people to elect capable persons in the election by casting their votes in favour of a person who is capable of responding earnestly to the problems of the villages.

They have also been educating people about the problems which might arise if unfit people are given votes, and advantages of casting votes to able candidates. These things are presented effectively in the form of presentations. In addition, members of Gana Lahari Balaga, Koteshwar too have been alerting the people about the voting through folk songs.
