Mangalore: Sighting of Crash, Rushing for Rescue – Scramble on for Credit
Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)
Mangalore, May 29: There is a tussle between different persons over the issue of who was the first to see the air crash happening and rushing to rescue distressed people. The concerned vouch for the veracity of their respective claims and dub the claim of others as false.
It may be recalled that Satish Devadiga and his friends, residing near the airport, held a press conference in the city two days ago. They had termed claims made by Sameer that he was the first to see the crash happening and also to help the passengers, as false. Devadiga and his associates had claimed that they in fact, were the first to witness the crash and reach the accident spot.
On Friday May 28, Mohammed Sameer from Malavoor village near the airport, held a press conference here. He termed the information given by Satish Devadiga at the press conference as misleading. “The crash occurred in front of my eyes at 5.57 am on May 22.
At 6.02 am, I called the police control room and told them the route to reach the crash site. At 6.04 am, I received a call from the policemen, seeking directions to reach there. At 6.14, the police commissioner called me over phone to collect details of the incident and road to reach there. Immediately after the crash, I and a few youths from my village ran over to the place. It took 15 minutes for us to reach there. We brought injured passenger named Sabrina, who was stuck in a tree, down and handed over her to people coming from behind. We saw two youngsters trying to jump out of the airplane and heard the wails of a baby. Before we could rush and rescue them, the plane exploded.
My friend, K M Shariff, brought Abdul and Farooq to the main road on his motor bike from the site. One of the injured was taken to hospital in an auto rickshaw, while the other was entrusted to his relatives. We never want to claim credit for helping the distressed, which was done purely with humanitarian consideration. At the same time, we do not expect anything in return. Police officers have praised us for the services. This clarification is given because of the false claims being made by some people,” he said.
Naushad, brother of Sameer, and K M Shariff, were present.
