Mangalore: Theme Meeting on Medical Instrumentation at Fr Mullers

Mangalore, May 30: Theme Meeting on Medical Instrumentation was held at Fr Mullers Hospital on Friday May 28 and 29, in collaboration with the department of atomic energy (DAE) and Board of Research in Nuclear sciences (BRNS), BARC Mumbai.
After the prayer song and lighting of the lamp by the guests, the welcome address was delivered by Dr Sanjeev Rai CMS and convener.
Chief guest of the programme, Dr Sandeep Sancheti, director, NITK, Suratkal, addressing the gathering, said that he felt that this event was unique and that it heralds a new beginning in the field of development of medical instrumentation. .
Dr P P Chandrachoodan, addressing the gathering, pointed out that the medical instruments today are being used not only for the diagnosis of the diseases, but also in the cure, mitigation of pain, treatment of the pain or even the prevention of diseases. He noted that medical engineering plays a vital role in improving the engineering techniques in the medical field.
Dr G K Jindal, speaking to the delegates, said that for the first time in the history of India, engineers have been attending a team meeting in a medical institution. He expressed the opinion that medical instruments have been helping thousands of doctors in diagnosis of various ailments.
Fr Patric Rodrigues, director, Fr Muller Charitable Hospital, addressing the gathering, said that this will be a unique event, where the thoughts and new ideas can be shared, towards guiding and motivating the students, especially in the medical and engineering fields.

Fr Staney Tauro, administrator, Fr Muller Medical College Hospital, and Dr J P Alva, dean, Fr Muller Medical College, were also present at the programme. The keynote address was delivered by Prof Ramakrishnan, IIT Chennai, on biomedical instrumentation.
