Chitradurga: 30 Charred to Death in Bus Accident

Bangalore, May 30 (IANS) At least 30 people, including 10 children, were charred to death when the bus they were travelling in fell into a roadside pit and caught fire in the early hours of Sunday in Karnataka's Chitradurga district, police said.

The bus was on the way to Bangalore from Surpur in Gulbarga district when it hit a stone and fell into the pit at Challakere, some 200 km from here. It caught immediately fire and most of the victims were charred, police said.

The bus belonged to the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation.

Besides 10 children, the dead included 15 women. Several of the remaining 29 passengers suffered burns and were being treated at hospitals in nearby Chitradurga town.

Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa expressed shock and grief over the tragedy and announced Rs.100,000 as immediate compensation to the families of the dead and Rs.25,000 to the injured.

Since it is KSRTC bus none of our readers nor our Daiji editor have commented on the driver but if it was a private bus then all would go on to the top of their voices to blame the driver and conductor of the private busses, I'm not supporting the private busses but I would like to draw the attention of everybody that drivers are humans first and no-one will do a accident purposely, when it is a mistake or suddenly only then it is called accident.

If you die in plane crsh, the compensation is 10 lakhs. if you die in train accident, compensation would be 2 lakshs. if u die in road accident compensation would be one lakh. see the tragedy of our politics. in otherwords where the politicians travel most, more compensation!

Comeon sir, when people are dying u r taking about yediyurappa!! he is the CM not the bus/Flight/Train driver to blame him. instead of blaming try to put ur thoughts what CM can do to avoid such things. dont try to blame any one for some one else mistake. all my INDIAN's be slow when ur riding or driving. your life is so precious to ur family.

People don't have to be scared to fly AI Express and land at Bajpe table top airport. There was so much noise about the plane crash but other equally fatal road accidents go unnoticed. Road transport is much more dangerous than flying. Hundreds of people are dying in train, bus and other road accidents all over. Please refer to the midnapur train derailment and the chitradurga KSRTC bus accident. Only God has to protect us and no means of transport is safe in this world.

Heartful condolence to the family of those lost their lives in this bus accident. Cant expess the sadness.

Road safety is never followed or imposed. Blocking a road with stones and sometime by the metal stand by the police is to be questioned by the law.

Irresponsbile Traffic police authority who blocks road with steep rumblers, metal stand and sometime rockes on the road in the name of controlling the speed.

Event just stops after declaring the compensation. Nobody known if the compensation reaches the public whether with or without harrassement. Anyway CM is clean from his sin.
