Bengaluru, Dec 19: In the sixth edition of Karnataka state tenpin bowling championships, Akash Ashok Kumar and Preemal Joan Shyna Vas became champions in men's and women's sections respectively.
Preemal is the daughter of Mangaluru-based entrepreneur and artiste Jeevan Vas, and Veronica Vas.
In the finals of the men's section held on Friday December 18, Akash defeated R Kishan, who was last year's champion, by 29 points. In the finals of the women's section, Preemal subdued Geetha Poojary by a single point (324-323) and bagged her maiden championship.
In game 1, Akash took a 45 pin lead. In Game 2, Kishan scored 226 but a split of 7-10 in the last frame provided opportunity for Akash to score a 210 and grabbed the title with a 432-406 scoreline.
In the women's final, in game 1, Geetha took a lead of 36 points (181-145). In game 2, Preemal fought back scoring 179 with three strikes, in the last frame. Geetha could manage only 8 pins, scoring 142 in her last frame.
