Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)
Mangalore, Jun 2:The families of the air crash victims, whose identities could not be established with the help of DNA tests conducted with the help of blood samples taken from the close relatives, have given their nod for conducting mass burial of the unclaimed bodies. The burial, responsibility of which now rests on the district administration, is likely to be carried out near the Panambur beach in the city on Wednesday June 2.
City police commissioner, Seemant Kumar Singh, and in-charge district deputy commissioner of Dakshina Kannada district, S A Prabhakar Sharma, held talks with the families concerned and put forward the proposal for mass funeral. The family members said that they have no other choice but to agree to this proposal, as the district administration said it has explored all avenues to establish the identities of the remaining bodies, but failed in its efforts.
Four families wanted to claim the bodies of four crash victims, expressing the opinion that they have reasons to believe that these bodies belong to their relatives who died in the crash. The deputy commissioner succeeded in convincing them not to persist with this demand. He said, this can lead to legal problems, as the scientific tests have said that the bodies do not belong to their families.
It is learnt that the district administration has agreed to the request made by the families that the funeral should be conducted in the presence of priests from all religions, who should offer prayers for the peace of the departed souls. It is learnt that members from eight out of the 12 families took part in the meeting.
As per records, bodies of Mohammed Zubair from Volakadu Udupi, his children, Zainab and Ziad, Navid Ibrahim, Vaman Prabhu Ashoknagar, Ignatius D’Souza Shaktinagar, Mohammed Ismail Hassan Jeppu, K K Shetty Kodiyalbail, Abubakker Siddiq Uppala, Abdul Aziz Uppala, Abdul Basheer K M Bekal, Sukumar Moilatti in Kerala, and crew member of the ill-fated aircraft, Sujata, have not been recovered. The district administration has said that non-identification of the bodies will not be a deterrent for issuing death certificates being issued by the single window system set up at the Air India office, which distributed 60 death certificates on Tuesday.
