Bangalore, Jun 2: Mangalore Maza, the annual sports day of the Federation of Konkani Catholic Associations (FKCA) will be held at St Joseph’s Indian High School Grounds (opposite Kanteerava Stadium) on sunday June 6 from 8.00 am onwards.

The programme will comprise sports, games and fun games for all age groups. IN all 15 associations will compete for the FKCA Champions Trophy. The events include  

Inter-Association

The inter-association competition include cricket matches, throw ball matches, 4X100 metre relay, bangle relay, water relay, Vovyo (singing of traditional songs at the time of dressing the bride and such other wedding ceremonies) andSado Nesovnche (bridal dressing), Something for Everybody Starting from children below 3-ft-height, who will have “Frog Race” and compete to “Pick their Favourite Chocolates”,  children 4 to 8 years will vie with each other to “Burst Balloons” and the “Hopping Race”. The 8 to 12 year olds will have 50 mts race and “Blowing the Balloons” while 13 – 16 year olds in “Sack Race” and the 17 to 25 years will compete in “Obstacle Race”.  

Ladies 25 to 40 will have “Lemon and Spoon Race”  while their male counterparts will be engaged in “Balancing the Ball”. For 40 to 50 years of age, the men will have a 50 mtrs “Running Race”, while the ladies will have a “Necklace Race”. Ladies and gents 50 to 60 years can participate in 50 mts “Walking Race”, while the senior citizens can compete in 25 mts "Walking Race”, in separate events.  This year the “Bandi Race” for men above 40 years has been added!

Games and Fun

Many traditional family games and competitions for all age groups (Modla Volchin, Mogri Phulan Bandchin, (stringing the mogra flowers), the quest for the “Fastest” person, with 100 mtrs race for girls and boys below 15 years,  “3-legged Race”  and “Brick Walk” for couples, besides a 25 mts. “Bride-carrying” Race for the most Caring Husband. There will be an intra-family event to select the “Fastest Family” with a 4x50 mts Relay race. These apart there ate lots of other activities, fun, and entertainment will be in store. TV Coverage of the entire event will be provided.

Further, breakfast,lunch, tea/coffee, soft drinks and snacks are available at the venue at a reasonable price. One of the star attractions of the day will also be the availability of ethnic Mangalorean food to tickle the Konkan palates – kube-mutli, pothrade, kori-rotti, warne, manni, ponsacho patholio, haldikolyacho patholio, gario and kailolio shevio-rose among others. And not to forget - pork variants like indaad, bafat and sorpothel.  

FKCA has invited all to come with their family and friends to enjoy the events and typical Mangalorean fare!
About FKCA 

The federation is now in its 13th year of existence. It comprises 20 Konkani Catholic Associations worldwide. Currently the member associations range from various cities of Karnataka, the Gulf countries, Europe and America. 

The federation has been making concerted efforts by meeting successive Chief Ministers and leaders of different political parties to demand suitable representation to minorities, especially Christians. It also provides free placement and matrimonial services. 

The federation also has formed entrepreneurs forum which is known as “Kanara Entrepreneurs” which also helps in generating employment to help the job seekers. The association also Recognizes people and awards them annually with Best Entrepreneur, Lifetime Achievement and Professional Excellence awards.

    It was a great event and looking forward for the exiting events like modla volchi(weaving coconut palms), poolan bandchi(jasmine flowers tying) was really enjoyable and looking forward for the same this time.

    All the best to FKCA for Mangalore Maza Annual Sports day. I sincerely thank you for conducting such fun & frolic games & giving a wide opportunity to all age group. My mom took part (Senior group) last year & won the price. We are really happy to get such opportunity for my mom to enjoy the whole day with all age group. Keep the good work.
