Shimoga, Jun 3: Nandkumar, naxal leader arrested by the state policemen from Hyderabad recently, has confessed to the interrogating team that every state organization of naxals is obliged to send money to the central outfit regularly, and that there are dues to the extent of Rs 25 lac from the Karnataka unit of naxals to the central committee on this account as on date.
He reportedly told the policemen that the naxal hub in Jharkhad directly supplies naxal literature, equipments, explosives, arms etc., besides providing training to the state level outfits. He has revealed to the policemen that during the last ten years, the state organization paid over a crore rupees to the central organization towards these things. The money is being collected from the sympathizers of the naxal movement, located in Shimoga, Raichur and Bangalore. In addition, labourers working in Western Ghats need to pay a minimum of ten rupees per day to the naxals, he informed.
In addition, the rich farmers residing in forest areas were forced to cough up a certain amount at regular intervals to the naxals, the policemen have discovered. He also has revealed that the clout of the naxals has been dwindling in the Western Ghat region, as the number of active naxals has come down to about 20.
On being produced at the residence of a judge here on the night of Wednesday after marathon interrogation, Nandkumar was remanded to police custody. The policemen have filed first information reports, accusing Nandkumar of having a hand in the murder of Bhoje Gowda, blast near Sringeri and some other such cases.
