Beltangady, Dec 29: Jayanth Prabhu (58) from Kavalamudoor Agartyaru lost his life on Monday December 28 after mistakenly consuming insecticide meant to be sprayed on grass. He thought it to be a medicine he was taking for mouth ulcers.

Prabhu was the immediate past member of Kavalamudoor gram panchayat (GP) and he had fought the current gram panchayat election as a Congress candidate. He has left behind his wife and son.

Prabhu had consumed an insecticide, Trycord, by oversight on the night of December 21. He also cast his vote in the election held the next day and stayed near the booth till late evening. However, at night he suddenly fell ill. He was rushed to a hospital at Mangaluru where he breathed his last on Monday afternoon.

Jayanth Prabhu, a Congress activist, had been elected twice in the past as gram panchayat member and had been elected as the vice president of the panchayat for one term. He was a progressive farmer and was also involved with social, religious and cooperative sectors. He also was engaged in social service.

Former minister B Ramanatih Rai, Bantwal block Congress president Baby Kunder and zilla panchayat member B Padmashekhar Jain paid their last respects to the departed soul.
