Udupi: 'Vidyagama classes to start from Jan 1, half day for SSLC students' - ZP CEO

Udupi, Dec 29: “Vidyagama classes will start from January 1, 2021 for students of class 6, 7, 8 and 9 and half day classes for SSLC students,” said Dr Naveen Bhat, CEO of zilla panchayat (ZP) Udupi at the press meet held at DC conference hall Manipal here.

He said, "A meeting was held with education institutions in all five zones and teachers were trained. Schools are being sanitising inside and outside including furniture, toilets and the campus. A copy of SOP has been sent to all parents through WhatsApp. The education department has planned to welcome students on January 1 by decorating schools and organising recreational activities on the first day. We have instructed school heads about the same.

“There will be half day class for SSLC students from 10 am to 2 pm. Classes will be held in two groups. Each groups will have 15-20 students. Vidyagama classes for sixth and seventh standard will be held from 10 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 4.30 pm for eighth and ninth standard students. Water supply and electricity connection and other infrastructures should be up-to-date in the school. A mentor has been appointed in every school to educate all about health and hygiene.

“Students should bring water from their home itself or else the school should make arrangement of providing hot water for students. A separate isolation room is recognized in the schools. It is instructed not to conduct mass prayer or any sports. Teachers above 50 years old must wear face shield. Mask is compulsory for all. Covid test report is mandatory for teachers. Any symptomatic children should bring health certificate or permission letter from parents. A committee has been formed chaired by the deputy commissioner to monitor school activities.

“There are a total of 467 schools which have class 6 to 9. The total number of students are 23,901 in government schools and total teachers are 2,589. The total number of Vidyagama teams are 1,593. The total number of aided schools are 228 in the district. The total number of students are 11,200 in government schools and total teachers are 783. The total number of Vidyagama teams are 747. The total number of non-aided schools are 175 in the district. The total number of students 28,704 in government school. The total teachers are 2,685, and total number of Vidyagama teams are 1,914.

Assistant deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, DDPI NH Nagur and others were present.
