International flights to remain suspended till January 31, 2021

New Delhi, Dec 30 (IANS): Centre on Wednesday extended the suspension of scheduled commercial international flight operations to and from India till January 31.

"This restriction shall not apply to international all-cargo operations and flights specifically approved by DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation)," an official statement said on Wednesday.

"However, international scheduled flights may be allowed on selected routes by the competent authority on a case to case basis," it added.

At present, India has entered into 'Air Bubble' agreements with several countries.

This type of arrangement allows nationals of both the countries to travel in either direction.

Passenger air services were suspended on March 25 due to the nationwide lockdown to check the spread of Covid-19.

Domestic flight services, however, resumed from May 25.

DGCA has taken a wise decision by suspending International flights to and from India till January 31, 2021. I agree with international cargoes which is essential. But I am confused as to which flights will be in operation. I and my wife are one of them to go back to New York as we have been waiting since the pandemic but since we both are retired and visit India as and when we wish to visit our children. Their plans to visit India was not able to fulfil.

All the elections can be held all over India … but for the common man to travel back to their overseas jobs prohibited..... does it make any sense???? Only people stranded back on will know the pain.

Instead of banning international flights, they should stop the city & inter state bus, it full crowded, there is no social distance or anything. Why is government of INDIA is making difficult for normal people. Instead they should allow the flight, with strict guidelines..

Rapid testing is available now so why not allow all flights? Anyway we have 5 lakh active cases even if a few more come in via flight and are not detected in testing it will not make a big difference.
