Udupi, Jan 2: A 12-year-old teen, who locked himself inside the bathroom for hours together as he was annoyed with the fact that his mother took away his mobile phone on which he was playing games, was rescued from the fourth floor of the apartment building where the family lived.

This incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 2 on the fourth floor of A1 apartments of MIT Manipal near here.

Leon, son of Kala, was playing video games on his mobile the whole night on Friday. Kala scolded him and took the mobile phone from her son by force. Out of anger, Leon went inside the bathroom and locked himself up and did not open the door in spite of repeated requests of his mother.

Out of frustration and fear, the desperate mother called fire service personnel as the apartment in which they live is on the fourth floor. The fire service personnel, who immediately reported to the spot, got down to the fourth floor from the top with the help of a rope and broke open the window of the bathroom and rescued the teenager, who was sleeping in a semi-conscious state.

Vasanth Kumar, chief officer of fire service squad, Ashwin Sanil, Sudhakar Devadiga, Ravi Nayak, driver Alwyn Prashanth, home guards Prabhakar, Dawood Hakim took part in the operation. They were supported by a team of MIT in the rescue act.

The effort of fire service personnel is lauded by the public.

My big salute to the Fire service personnel who rescued this teenager in an very daring way. But this teenager should learn and also think what he has done for what he has done and caused to his parents. This is a lesson for all others who are so engrossed who spend most of the time on video games and what not.

See, if boy is smoking 'something' like most do in Manipal....we used to call it 'Smoking Syndrome of Manipal'.... Mobile phone could be just an alibi to convince Fire Department to open the door without alarming authorities....

    ...Tak...Takk...

The present trend of dependency on Mobile phones is very dangerous to the little children who are addicted to it despite having many relatives around. Thanks to the fire personnel who saved the boy from peril. Parents need be more polite towards children who have learnt more than their age with these equipments.

juliana, udupi, I fully agree with your sensible comments and there is no doubt about it. I don't blame cell phones as this is modern technology which has helped one and all around the world. But by misusing this small instrument has ruined many lives in many ways.

Fire staff risking their life to persuade a spoilt brat to come out of his bathroom ? He would have come out anyway when his stomach was hungry. Fire team should not waste resources for this kind of misaddcventures where there is no life threatening emergency.
