Udupi, Jun 7:
One person died and many were injured after the private bus they were travelling in plunged by the side of National Highway (NH) 17, at Kallapu, near Katpady, here on Monday June 7.

The passengers were returning after attending a programme at Katpady when the accident took place.

The deceased has been identified as 18-year old Geethanjali, a resident of Kotekar in Mangalore.

The injured passengers are Narayan Acharya, Hemaraj Acharya, Yadav Acharya, Rashmi, Divakar, Hariprasad, Gunavathi, Kanya, Shamdev, Rohan, Jnandev, Sandesh, Vasanti and Raghavendra.

There were about 28 people traveling in the bus. Local residents blame the NH authorities for the mishap as earlier damage to the roadside railings had not been repaired despite many accidents occurring on the same spot in the past.

MLC Captain Ganesh Karnik, Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon, deputy superintendent of police Santhosh Kumar, and sub-inspector Mohan Kumar visited the mishap site.

Kaup police registered a case in this regard and investigations are under way.

It is our normal Indian tendency to learn the things after the occurance of mishap. We never think before to take the safty measurements on the roads and after the mishap start the blame game.
