Mangalore : Central Team Visits Air Crash Site

Mangalore, Jun 8 (DHNS): The investigation team set up by the Central government to conduct inquiry into the Air India Express IX-812 tragedy arrived in Mangalore on Monday and conducted spot inspection as part of its preliminary inquiry.
The Team led by retired Air Marshall Bhushan Neelakanta Gokhale arrived in Mangalore at around 1.20 pm and visited the runway of Bajpe airport and checked all other security arrangements. The team visited the Air Traffic Control division of the airport and collected information from the officers. Later they proceeded to the air crash site and checked the wreckage of the aeroplane.
The eight-member team consisted of former Director of Indian Airlines Gurucharan Bathura, former Flight Inspector Capt Ron Nagar, former DGCA officer S S Nath, Working Vice-President of Go Air Babu Peter and other officials.
Speaking to reporters, Gokhale said: “We have been asked by the government to submit the report by August 31. We are confident and we will do our best to submit the report by August 31.”
“This is only a preliminary inquiry. We will be in Mangalore for two more days. We will speak to ATC officials at the airport and also collect information from those who survived the air crash,” he explained.
A court will be set up in Mumbai for further inquiry and proceedings with regard to the Mangalore air crash. The team will visit Mangalore again as part of the inquiry later, he added.
