Mangalore, Jun 13: The city office of Air India Express (AIE) has announced the re-scheduling of two of its flights to Kuwait and Dubai.
As per the new schedule, flight number IX 389 from Mangalore to Kuwait will depart at 22.30 pm on Sunday June 13 while flight number IX 811 from Mangalore to Dubai will leave at 03.00 am on Monday June 14.
Three flights from Mumbai and three from Gulf were diverted on Saturday June 12 owing to poor visibility at the city’s airport.
Airports Authority of India (AAI) has assured the airlines that the primary navigation device - Instrument Landing Systems (ILS) - that was damaged in the recent air crash will be calibrated by a flight inspection unit of AAI, who will arrive in a special aircraft and commission the ILS in three to four days.
The weather is taking a toll on air traffic because the city airport is temporarily using a back-up navigation device which is not all-weather friendly. ILS precisely guides the pilots on angle of descent and directs them to the precise area marked for landing on the tarmac even during harsh weather.
Meanwhile, AIE has provided hotel accommodation at a cost of Rs 3,000 per day per person to over 100 passengers who have been stranded owing to the rescheduling of flights. The private airlines have also provided similar services.
